Meet Figgy Tuna: Our First ECU Entry in the National Campus Music Competition

The first ECU entry is officially in! 🎶

The ECU Student Guild is excited to announce that Figgy Tuna are the first ECU act to enter the National Campus Music Competition — and we know they’re just the beginning!

Meet Figgy Tuna

Figgy Tuna are a four-piece indie rock band who formed in June 2022 when a group of high school mates decided they wanted to start writing music together.

Since then, they’ve been busy. The band has written and produced numerous tracks and performed at venues across Perth, including the Indian Ocean Hotel, The Bird and Mojo’s, building an enthusiastic following along the way.

Their energetic and emotional performances have helped establish Figgy Tuna as a young band to watch, with influences including Arctic Monkeys, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Wunderhorse and DICE.

The band features:

🎸 Alec Prendiville – Rhythm Guitar / Keys
🎸 Tom Gleeson – Lead Guitar

And now… Battle of the Beats! 🔥

Figgy Tuna’s entry brings us one step closer to Battle of the Beats, a huge live music event coming to Universal Bar on Tuesday 13 October 2026.

The ECU Student Guild and WAAPA are teaming up to showcase ECU’s musical talent, with selected competition entrants getting the opportunity to perform live in front of their fellow students.

There will be prizes up for grabs on the night, along with Judges’ Choice and Audience Choice awards.

It’s a chance for ECU musicians to get on stage, build their profile, connect with other student artists and, most importantly, make some noise!

The National Campus Music Competition is open to solo artists, bands, DJs and emerging musicians across all genres.
