Where Does Your SSAF Go?

Every ECU student pays a Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF), but have you ever wondered where that money actually goes? Here’s a quick look at how your SSAF was spent in the first half of 2025 and how it helps shape student life at ECU.

Supporting Student Life
The SSAF funds the ECU Student Guild, which exists to make your university experience better — socially, academically, and personally. In Q1 and Q2 2025, your SSAF supported:

  • Events & Activities: From big campus events like Clubs Carnival and the Guild Ball to smaller activities like zoo trips, go-karting, and themed socials, including upcoming Bollywood Party, SSAF helps make campus fun for everyone.
  • Clubs: 26 student clubs received $12,543.53 in Q2, bringing the total for the year to date to $32,677.56. Funding supports cultural groups, academic societies, and more, giving students a chance to connect, make friends, and explore new interests.
  • International Student Support: Events like the IFTAR Dinner, Onam, and Africa Day brought students together to celebrate culture and community.
  • Dircksey Magazine & Creative Projects: Students produced and shared creative works, including 2,000 wall planners, the campus magazine, and the video project Through the Lens.

Helping Students Directly
SSAF doesn’t just fund fun — it also helps students where it matters most:

  • Food & Drink: $29,901 (Q1) + $33,857 (Q2) = $63,758 was spent providing free or subsidised meals and snacks across campuses.
  • Student Welfare: The Guild Advisory Service supported 232 students with academic appeals, financial hardship, and provided $5,140 in grants and FoodBank referrals.
  • Training & Skills: Courses like First Aid and White Card sold out quickly, giving students practical qualifications alongside their degrees. More opportunities are coming.

The Numbers at a Glance
Here’s where the biggest chunks of SSAF went in the first half of 2025:

  • Supporting Sporting & Recreational Activity (events, trips, socials): $191,178
  • Club Administration Support: $139,224
  • Provision of Food & Drink: $63,758

Why It Matters
Your SSAF is all about making university life more than just classes and assignments. It funds the spaces, events, support, and opportunities that help you feel part of a community. Whether you’ve been to a Guild BBQ, joined a club, needed advocacy, or just grabbed a free lunch — your SSAF is behind it.

👉 Want to get more out of your SSAF? Join a club, attend events, or reach out to the Guild if you need support. It’s your money, your services, and your student community.
